Welsh Baccalaureate CCS: Views of stakeholders on the new Welsh Bacc

About the course

The new specification of the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced qualification has been taught since September 2015. The main aim of the qualification is to consolidate and progress the development of essential and employability skills. It will provide experiences which will enable learners to be better prepared for their future, whether university, further training or employment.

Learners will develop skills through purposeful tasks; applying knowledge and understanding in appropriate contexts to prepare them for the demands of the workplace. Through the Welsh Baccalaureate learners will raise their skills level and confidence enabling and empowering them to take their place as responsible and active citizens within a diverse society.

The Welsh Baccalaureate is based on a Skills Challenge Certificate alongside Supporting Qualifications. The requirements of both the Skills Challenge Certificate and Supporting Qualifications must be met in order to achieve the overarching Welsh Baccalaureate.

The Skills Challenge Certificate consists of four components:
- Individual Project
- Enterprise and Employability Challenge
- Global Citizenship Challenge
- Community Challenge
